While the preparations are underway on Sava Square for the erection of a 23-meter-high monument to Stefan Nemanja, which will dominate the central part of this square, we reveal how the new public space within Belgrade Waterfront will look like upon the reconstruction.
By displacing the traffic to the outskirts of Sava Square, pedestrians are left with an area of 20,000 sqm on the square itself, on the podium, and the ground around the building of former Main Railway Station. Around 300 trees are being planted on the square, so this, along with the Sava Park and tree lines along Belgrade Waterfront streets, will be one of the greenest parts of the city.
Reconstruction of Sava Square, with careful preservation of authentic historical layers, is carried out within the biggest development in the region – Belgrade Waterfront, based on the project of the Spanish architectural team „Fenwick Iribaren Architects“, which won the international competition.
