Local artists have the opportunity to create unique works of art and contemporary street equipment within Belgrade Waterfront, the largest construction project in the region. The best works will receive valuable cash prizes
Belgrade, May 15, 2020 – Art initiative KVART Belgrade Waterfront announces the largest regional artistic competition. Participants will compete for the best works of art and contemporary street equipment, and the most successful among them will get the chance to realize their projects. Applications for the competition “Become a Part of KVART” starts on May 14th, the application deadline is July 8th by 3 p.m. and detailed information on the conditions of participation can be found at www.belgradewaterfront.com/art.
Contemporary street equipment through the artists’ eyes
As part of the competition, participants propose creative solutions for art installations, sculptures and contemporary street equipment. When making proposals, artists are required, among other things, to be creative and original, and the street equipment that has great potential for enriching the space will be especially valued. The jury will choose 21 best works, with the advice of our most eminent curators and art historians. The proposals can be received in the form of graphic solutions, sketches, 2D and 3D displays. Belgrade Waterfront will finance the realization of the selected 21 artworks.
The three most original solutions will win valuable cash awards – EUR 30,000, EUR 20,000 and EUR 10,000, and the most creative idea in the category of contemporary street equipment will win EUR 10,000. The winning works will be exhibited at both interior and exterior of Belgrade Waterfront, such as Kula Belgrade and its immediate surroundings, or the largest regional shopping mall Galerija Belgrade.
The competition is open to all artists from Serbia – from non-confirmed creators to established artists, regardless of whether they have significant references in their portfolio, or are at the beginning of their career. Everyone has an equal chance.
Locations become artistic destinations
„Belgrade Waterfront supports and initiates various cultural and artistic initiatives. We want to offer local artists the opportunity to show their talent and transform it into unique contemporary street equipment. Belgrade Waterfront will become recognizable thank to these pieces as a unique space that integrates art with the most contemporary way of living. Our idea is to create impressive locations together with artists, but also more than that –first-class art destinations to which people will return again and again. Belgrade Waterfront will cooperate on the project with “Stab” Gallery, which will be in charge of the technical part of competition organization.

What is KVART Belgrade Waterfront?
The goal of the cultural-artistic initiative KVART Belgrade Waterfront is to support the Serbian contemporary art scene, but also to create new opportunities and space for creative expression. As one of the bearers of creative energy in Belgrade, the programme brings together painters, designers, musicians, artists, dancers and many other artists and innovators, whose work represents a synergy with the new city hub on the banks of the Sava.
